Farm dogs and sheep

Watch the mighty dog show as our working sheep dogs muster in the sheep for you. Learn how the dogs work on command as they demonstrate their incredible skills right in front of you. Make sure you have your camera ready. Included is a full commentary throughout the demonstration providing an informative and educational experience.

For school groups we also give the students the opportunity to interact and participate in a challenge to bring in the sheep giving them a hands on experience of how important the sheep dog is to the farmer.

Sheep shearing demonstration

A farm show wouldn’t be complete without a sheep shearing demonstration.

Shearing a sheep takes many years to learn and it is an incredible experience to watch the shearer work his magic as he uses the blades to remove the wool from the sheep right before your eyes. At Rubicon we demonstrate both the electric shears and the hand blades that are used today within New Zealand Farming.

We give you the opportunity to not only see one of our 3000 sheep being shorn but also give you the opportunity to have a go at shearing yourself if you want to using the hand blades – a truly unique experience that most people don’t have the opportunity to try.

After the demonstration there is time allowed for further discussion with an informative commentary delving into the world of sheep farming and some educational information on sheep followed by the opportunity to ask further questions about New Zealand Sheep farming.

Alpacas

At Rubicon we also have a small herd of Alpacas that we bring in for you to meet. We love to give you the opportunity to learn about these inquisitive animals and give you the opportunity to touch them with an extra photo opportunity that you won’t want to miss
